Parveen’s life took an unexpected and frightening turn when she suddenly lost her eyesight. She was admitted to hospital and following an MRI scan, Parveen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). After a course of medication, her vision returned to normal, and she continued to live a normal life, remaining in remission for over nearly two decades.
However, gradually, her balance began to deteriorate which made it difficult to walk, resulting in Parveen falling on numerous occasions. Parveen also noticed other symptoms and found it difficult to write as she used to, which impacted her daily life. Parveen’s neurologist informed her that her MS was relapsing and she was forced to retire early from her cherished role as a medical professional in a hospital laboratory due to her declining health.
HOW PARVEEN GETS MOVING
A friend suggested to Parveen that she should look into joining specialised gym sessions at Mind2Muscle to help manage her symptoms and condition. Parveen embraced the opportunity and has experienced significant improvements in her ability to walk unaided, reducing her risk of falling. The Mind2Muscle sessions focus on core strengthening and various stretches to help her to improve her balance and flexibility.
Parveen also moves more at home, raising her heart rate on an exercise bike and following her stretching routine. Parveen has found that being active supports both her physical and mental wellbeing and appreciates the social benefits too as she has met many new people and has forged new friendships with fellow gym-goers.
Most importantly, staying active has allowed Parveen to maintain her independence and continue enjoying the things she loves, such as going on holiday with her sisters.
