The AP Smilestars supervised tooth brushing programme was launched in September 2022 and is being delivered by local dental practice AP Smilecare on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Blackburn with Darwen has the highest rate of tooth decay in the country for children aged 3-5. To improve this the AP Smilestars programme is introducing supervised tooth brushing into reception and nursery classes across the Borough.

Full training is provided to school staff as well as the provision of age-appropriate toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Further information about the programme can be found in the videos (English and Urdu available).
